REPORTS TO: Director of Sales & Marketing
POSITION SUMMARY
The Steel Estimator applies and maintains estimating objectives for Hoffmann’s Fabrication division as directed by the Director of Sales & Marketing. Extensive knowledge of steel fabrication and machining concepts, practices and procedures are required. This position requires a self-directed and assertive individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as exceptional mathematical ability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must accurately read blueprints, technical drawings and specifications and demonstrate organizational skill. This role will primarily review bid documents, RFP’s, project specifications and drawings to determine the scope of the project and prepare estimates. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Utilize discretion for the achievement of all project goals including but not limited to prioritizing estimates, specification compliance, material selection, quality and safety specifications.
Ability to communicate and interact with Vendors, Subcontractors, and Project Managers.
Work closely with the Company’s Operations Manager, Fabrication Shop Manager, Project Manager(s) and Equipment Manager for resource availability.
Prepares project summaries, proposal documents, drawings, and other reports to communicate the detail and status of estimates to Hoffmann Management.
Ability to present estimate details and specifications in a group setting to Hoffmann Management.
Manage bid software platforms/spreadsheets.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Associates Degree in applicable profession, business or technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Three to Five years of applicable experience preferred
Show excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with an attention to detail, recognize discrepancies, and provide customer service to coworkers and outside contacts.
Ability to work as a member of a team
To evaluate bid documents and project drawings and details with accuracy
General knowledge of the fabrication process and materials
General knowledge of various steel shapes, weights and measurements as well as willingness to learn the Company’s capabilities and QAQC standards.
Ability to provide material lists and coordinating material pricing.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while continuing to meet project deadlines, exceptional problem solving, analytical, organizational and time management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
Ability to work in Microsoft Word, FABTROL and specific fabrication related computer software programs.
Ability to read, and understand project layout and equipment drawings
Excellent work ethic, professionalism and growth mindset required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

General office conditions with moderate noise. Throughout any day must stand, walk, sit and regularly must talk and listen.
Position may require additional hours beyond 40 hours
Flexibility and ability to travel when needed
Diverse conditions are possible when at client sites. Possible exposure to dirty, dusty and extreme weather conditions
