Fixture Designer & Builder – 1st Shift

POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates day-to-day planning, operation, and problem-solving for the building of production weld fixtures used in manual and robotic weld cells. Taking into consideration ergonomic issues, capacity levels and work cell/part constraints. Support of other departments as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attend meetings with engineering team to give and receive information regarding needs, timing, and cost of weld fixtures.
Design/build production weld fixtures, assembly fixtures and any other fixtures that need to be produced.
Orchestrate outsourcing of metal, screws, dowels, bushings or any other materials or components necessary to build fixtures.
Machine parts with saw, mill, grinder, drill press etc., as needed.
Purchase and maintain fixture shop tool inventory.
Maintain/clean fixture shop.
Orchestrate timing of all steps to meet or exceed customer due date.
Transport parts within the factory using a hi-lo when necessary.
Train/coach fixture shop personnel in designing, machining, or building of fixtures.
Oversee and be accountable for all fixtures designed or produced for production.
Adhere to 5S and lean manufacturing disciplines in everyday operation as well as in fixture design.
Repair/maintain fixtures.
Do initial set up of robotic/manual fixtures and run off sample and PPAP orders to validate fixture accuracy/repeatability.
Support all other departments in designing/building products that we can help with such as check jigs, assembly jigs, I.T. carts, brackets etc.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be proficient in design software (Solidworks) and theory of fixture design.
Must be proficient in operation and set-up of mills, drill presses, welders, etc. to accurately fabricate fixture parts.
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to teach employees necessary skills and processes in setup and operation of design software, mills, drills etc. required in the production of weld fixtures.
Must be team player.
Ability to read prints.
Must understand GD&T.
Ability to use all welding equipment: MIG, TIG, arc, gas and all grinding equipment proficiently.
Ability to use tape measure, calipers and micrometers.
Must be strong in math.
Hilo driver’s license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing/building of high quality, precision weld fixtures.
Minimum of 5 years of experience machining, grinding, TIG and MIG welding required.
Minimum 3 years of CAD experience preferably designing weld fixtures.
