David M. Walker is excited to hire a full-time associate to join his growing criminal defense practice.
The successful candidate will be intelligent, trustworthy, personable, hardworking and have a good (preferably great) sense of humor.
ABOUT US
Mr. Walker is a sole practitioner and has been practicing in the Philadelphia region for more than 20 years. His firm focuses almost exclusively on the defense of individuals accused of committing a crime. Mr. Walker handles a wide variety of cases ranging from homicide to simple drug possession and practices in both state and federal courts.
ABOUT YOU
As an ideal candidate for this role, you have a passion for criminal defense and the ability to engage and understand these unique clients and their families. You will have to be comfortable both on your feet in a courtroom or behind a desk drafting motions.
Your career objective is to develop and advance your criminal defense skills with the support, guidance, and mentorship of one of Philadelphia’s most successful criminal defense attorneys. You are excited to grow your skills and knowledge and look forward to long-term advancement within the firm.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Meet, interview and secure prospective clients; manage existing clients and their families (all client interactions are to be conducted with a positive attitude)
Conduct client interviews at prisons in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties (access to a car is necessary)
Conduct legal research; draft briefs, motions and memoranda
Assist in managing daily phone traffic to maintain quality client service
Make court appearances on behalf of Mr. Walker
Provide all levels of trial support for larger cases including document and video review
Manage/try smaller cases
File motions and other court documents (electronically)
Other tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Member of the Pennsylvania Bar in good standing
Preferably at least two years of experience either as an assistant public defender, assistant district attorney or private criminal defense practitioner
Desire to learn new skills, grow professionally and willingness to work as a support member on a great criminal defense team
Empathy toward those accused of committing a crime
Strong trial skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly adept in managing clients in difficult situations
Superior legal research and writing ability, with a willingness to draft legal memoranda, motions and briefs
Professional, courteous demeanor especially in stressful situations
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work independently and problem solve
Sound discretion and good judgment, especially when relaying information
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Proficiency in either LexisNexis or Westlaw
COMPENSATION
Salary:
$85,000 annually with performance-based bonus
Benefits negotiable
Generous vacation/personal time
**Hours: Vary M-F and an occasional Sunday may be required, depending on trial schedule.
